Out and About Around Basye

There such a variety of options to explore, that you’ll always find something new to do each time you visit, or perhaps a favorite you visit on each vacation. Whatever it is you’re looking to do, you can find it in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, so here are a few suggestions to look out for on your next mountain getaway!

The Outdoors

One of the best parts of visiting Basye, VA are all the things to do to experience the outdoors. You have the Appalachian mountains at your fingertips to the West, and the Massanutten and Blue Ridge Mountains on your doorstep to the East! Make sure to visit the parks like Lost River State Park or the Shenandoah National Park. These places are perfect for hiking, running, biking, and just enjoying the beautiful nature of the mountains. There are also plenty of trails to follow along the area such as the Massanutten, Wolf Gap, and Arrowhead Rock trails. Also, worth exploring in the nearby area are the Shenandoah Caverns or the Luray Caverns. Wonderful caves filled with stalagmites and stalactites beautifully formed through countless years! If you visit the Luray Caverns don’t forget to stop by its famous wishing well to make sure you capture some of the magic for yourself. Maybe you’re looking for somewhere to cool off or to explore the Shenandoah river! Lake Laura and Lake Orange are two lakes located very close to Basye, and both offer great fishing, swimming, or canoeing opportunities. If you want to spend a lazy day on the river, then consider looking up either Shenandoah River Adventures or the Shenandoah River Outfitters. Both rent out kayaks and canoes for wonderful days out on the river, as well as doing tubing launches for those looking to just kick back and let the river take them.

Golfing

One of the other great activities available in abundance near Basye is the multiple golfing opportunities. In Virginia, golf is played from the metropolitan areas, to quaint little towns, and even to the rural countryside. From clubs located right in Basye to ones just a bit further out, there are plenty to choose from. Just a bit further away you can find the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club and the Front Royal Golf Club for some wonderful experiences out on the greens.

Steeped in History and Culture

Ever since the early days of the United States, Virginia has been involved in the shaping of this country, lending to it a historical significance for this country. When visiting Virginia, it would be remiss to not visit some of these sites showcasing from where we came. Known as the state that has produced the most Presidents, it also has three wonderfully historic building to visit: Montpelier, Monticello, and Mount Vernon, homes of James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington respectively. Take some time to drive over towards the coast of Virginia and visit Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement ever in America, one of the birthplaces of our nation! Virginia is also home to many locations on the African American Historic Sites Trail. A few of the ones to definitely check out closer to Basye are the Bethel Baptist Church, Grace Episcopal Church, Historic Moncure Conway House, and the Robert Russa Moton Museum (where the beginnings of Brown v. Board of Education started). Staying in Basye is the perfect base to explore our countries early beginnings.
